The
Hyde Leadership Charter School is
a new school that opened earlier this year. It serves significantly disadvantaged
children in the Hunts Point section of the Bronx. It accepts all interested
students at no cost.
The Hyde Foundation’s primary philosophy is that each individual student
is gifted with a unique potential that defines a destiny. With many years
of experience operating a successful public charter school in the Washington
DC area, Hyde Leadership Charter School in the Bronx will offer its students
a character-based curriculum that stresses a student-parent-teacher partnership,
a family-school bond and rigorous academics aimed at laying the foundation
for each student’s success in college and fulfillment in life.
The Hyde Leadership Charter School will offer an after-school music program
to students 3-days a week (Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday) 4:00-6:00PM.
The program will be offered October to June and will expand each school
year as the school grows.
This program, offered in partnership with Roberta Flack, is called “The
Roberta Flack School of Music”. Roberta is a strong believer in inspiration
as a catalyst for learning, and wants to offer the opportunity for young
people to experience the magic and creativity that music can offer.
The Roberta Flack School of Music is funded entirely by private donation.
Our fundraising goal to launch this music program and develop it for
the next 5 years is $500,000.
If you wish to make a donation to the Roberta Flack School of Music, please
make it payable to Hyde Leadership Charter School (for the Roberta Flack
School of Music), and send it to:

Mission Statement:
At the Roberta Flack School of Music, children who demonstrate a strong interest
in studying music are educated and encouraged to master fundamental principles
of music, and in turn are taught to read, and write music. They are taught
to listen to and to really "hear" music. In addition, given the
exposure to these elements, there is an opportunity to utilize music as
a means of augmenting a strong academic education. The program is designed
to enable the school's administrators and teachers to recognize and foster
the development of music skills of children who are especially gifted.
